Become a Godly and Qualified Seaman Equipped for a life in Missions?

You could land on board fully prepared to make a difference in the world of missions. Be capable of standing a watch, manning the helm, know how to navigate, handle and secure cargo, tie knots, be safety conscious, know survival at sea techniques, understand the logistics of what it takes to bring a ship into port.

Study, Sail, Serve

The School of Navigation and Seamanship is comprised of a 3 month course followed by three additional  electives (lasting 3-month each) if you wish to scale up your qualifications further.  These addtional 3-month courses will continue in the UK, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea. Each module will study under the direction of a master mariner with vast experience in the industry. This school is designed to take someone with little or no knowledge in seamanship to a level of competence that will make a difference on board any YWAM Ships.

Why Not Just Train Me Up On Board Straight Away?

One of the constant difficulties with any ship equipped ministry is turnover of crew and the constant re-training effort that goes into preparing a new recruit to be safety conscious and effective in their roles on board. It takes large amounts of time away from our qualified officers to accomplish safety training. It is our desire to train men and women into the skills necessary before they are deployed. During this school you will learn to apply Biblical principles to all aspects of navigation and seamanship. Knowing how to lead people and be an effective missionary in a developing world context is key. Being calm under pressure and having a great attitude while navigating through tough times is so important! Anyone can be a blessing to the ship and it’s crew while the sun is shining and there is no weather to deal with, but what happens when a storm system rolls in and people need to depend on you? Will you lead like Jesus? Character development is KEY! So come join us and explore the spiritual, practical, and technological skills in utilizing and operating ocean going vessels for a life style of evangelism, (including bringing physical and spiritual healing to the poor and needy port cities, and island communities around the world).
