Introduction to Safety and Seamanship comes to Alotau
YWAM Ships Kona and YWAM Kona UofN partnered together recently to bring Introduction to Safety and Seamanship to YWAM Alotau, Papua New Guinea.
Captain Ann Ford was able to facilitate a week of training to students who mostly have a limited boating experience beyond canoes.
The seminar is designed to provide training for students to be competent crew members on small sailing vessels. They received a basic understanding of safety and seamanship as well as a biblical foundation for the ship ministry.
Reading a chart, finding latitude and longitude, plotting a course, safety equipment, anchoring, first aid, and using a compass were just a few of the subjects that were taught.
Captain Ann also highlighted crewing opportunities with YWAM Ships. The seminar was one week long, with 47 students ages 16 – 55.
