Medical DTS at Port YWAM in Kona
Medical Discipleship Training School
The Medical Discipleship Training School (MEDTS) held at Port YWAM Kona provides a great opportunity to extend and expand one’s healthcare training and experience medical missions in some of the most needy and isolated places on earth. There is no better way to accomplish this than to spend five months with a group of dedicated health care workers eager to Know God and Make Him Known. Starting with arrival day on January 5th, 2017, this school will run for 21 weeks ending with graduation on Friday, June 1st, 2017.
This course is for both the licensed medical professional and non-licensed person. In the morning you will be in a Discipleship Training School classroom in Kona Hawaii and then in the afternoons you select either the primary health care non-professional track or the licensed medical professional track. The level of subject matter is relevant to your chosen track. You will cover topics such as; tropical diseases, midwifery, dental, eye care, malaria, TB, hypertension, diabetes, infection control, wound care, community health education and more. Throughout the course you are up-skilled into taking your medical training into fields where sterile environments do not exist.
Outreach PhaseOutreach Phase is what makes the YWAM-DTS experience unique. We believe that Discipleship is not complete until you, a disciple, begin to make disciples. God desires that all mankind would know Him and His love (John 3:16). Being His followers, we desire the same! Alongside your Kingdom-minded classmates, experienced staff will guide you in sharing your faith with the nations of the world.
However, we are not content with just sharing the Gospel. We believe that Jesus is the most compassionate man who ever walked the earth. He is deeply concerned with every aspect of life, both practically and spiritually (James 2:17). Our outreaches, although primarily evangelistic, are filled with opportunities to involve ourselves in mercy ministries and primary healthcare.
Your Outreach Phase will give you the opportunity to travel to a foreign culture as an ambassador of Christ. You will become His hands and feet in bringing hope and compassion to a hurting world in desperate need! It’s an experience that is bound to rock you to the core and it will define the way in which you choose to live in the future.
During the two month outreach phase, you may find yourself onboard one of our medical ships in Papua New Guinea, working in a remote medical clinic in Togo, West Africa or serving in villages in Cambodia. These are only a few of many possibilities.
All outreaches will have an option, to extend for an additional 9 months.
